Preschool Director and Lead Teacher - Preschool 3s and 4s:
Favorite Bible Verse: Romans 8:38-39 (NIV) "For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons,[ neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord."
My name is Shantel Gholston and I am honored and privileged to serve the Lord and Crown of Life Lutheran Preschool as Director and Preschool 3 & 4 Teacher.
I studied at William Tyndale College and earned degrees in Early Childhood and Early Elementary Education with a minor in Theology. I also earned a Bachelor of Science in Child Development from Rochester College. Continuing my commitment to serving young children, I am on pace to complete my Master's Degree in Strategic Leadership with Life Pacific College by 2018.
Since the beginning of my career in the Early Childhood field in 1997, I have worked extensively with children and families throughout Oakland and Wayne counties in both public and private educational settings. With my almost 20 years of experience in teaching and in training staff, I am well equipped to meet the needs of students and their families. I am particularly interested in developing programs that encourage educational excellence through STEAM-exploration, hands-on "in real time" innovation and healthy partnerships.
My mission at Crown of Life Preschool is to live, model and encourage my staff, my students, and their families with the Gospel and love of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, to help them to see and know that they are His blessings and that their potential is great. Learning and serving our COL Preschoolers with developmentally appropriate practices that engage them to explore and grow in accordance with the Crown of Life Preschool mission is not merely a job, it is my joyful Christian commission.
I am happily married to Maurice, my husband of 24 years. We are blessed with 4 children, two dogs and run two nonprofit farms for the marginalized and elderly.
Lead Teacher - Junior Kindergarten:

Hello, my name is Mary Gruber and I am honored and privileged to serve the Lord and Crown of Life Lutheran Pre-School as the Junior Kindergarten teacher for the 2016-17 school year. With God's guidance, I look forward to ministering to the young children and take my responsibility to fulfill their educational needs very seriously.
I have a Bachelor of Science in Business from the University of Toledo and, after several years of being a stay-at-home-mom, I pursued a career in teaching and obtained my teacher certification and Lutheran synodical colloquy from Concordia University, Ann Arbor. I have also completed 18 credit hours towards my Master's Degree in Education at Marygrove College and am licensed through the state of Michigan with a Professional Education Certificate for Elementary, K-5 all subjects.
With nearly 20 years of education experience in Lutheran schools, my classroom focus has been in grades K to 3 for all aspects of the curriculum. Most recently, I was the Kindergarten teacher for two years at Trinity Lutheran in Monroe, and was also the 2nd grade teacher at St. John Lutheran in New Boston for many years.
My mission as a Lutheran school teacher is to impart to your child, through my words and actions, the Gospel of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and to instill the desire to grow each day in His faith. I will help foster in your child a love of lifelong learning and I will help equip him/her with the spiritual, intellectual, social, emotional, and physical skills that are essential to do the Lord's work on earth. I will integrate our Christian beliefs in all aspects of the curriculum.
I live in Rochester with John, my husband of nearly 40 years. We are blessed with four, grown children, all of whom are graduates of a Lutheran grade school, and who have all since graduated from college and are employed in their respective, chosen careers.
